Abstract

Modernism emerged during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as a revolutionary literary movement that challenged conventional forms of storytelling and poetic expression. Influenced by industrialization, scientific progress, urbanization, and the World Wars, modernist writers sought new ways to represent reality and human consciousness. This paper examines the major themes, narrative techniques, and literary innovations of Modernism in English literature. It highlights how writers rejected traditional realism in favor of experimentation, psychological depth, fragmented structures, and symbolic language. The study concludes that Modernism fundamentally transformed English literature and continues to influence contemporary fiction, poetry, and literary criticism.
