Internet of Things (IoT): Transforming Smart Cities and Smart Homes

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a transformative technology that connects physical devices, sensors, software, and communication networks to enable intelligent data exchange and automation. IoT is playing a crucial role in the development of smart cities and smart homes by improving resource management, energy efficiency, public safety, transportation, healthcare, and quality of life. Smart homes utilize connected devices for home automation, security, and energy management, while smart cities integrate IoT into urban infrastructure to support sustainable development and efficient public services. Despite its significant benefits, IoT faces challenges related to cybersecurity, privacy, interoperability, scalability, and data governance. This paper examines the role of IoT in transforming smart cities and smart homes, discusses current trends, implementation challenges, and highlights future opportunities.
