Abstract

Gamification has emerged as an innovative pedagogical approach that integrates game design elements into educational settings to enhance motivation, participation, and learning outcomes. This systematic review synthesizes findings from recent studies on gamification in classroom teaching across school and higher education. The review highlights the effectiveness of points, badges, leaderboards, quizzes, storytelling, simulations, and challenge-based learning in improving engagement, collaboration, and academic performance. It also discusses implementation challenges, including excessive competition, technological barriers, unequal access to digital resources, and the need for teacher training. The review concludes that gamification is most effective when aligned with learning objectives and supported by sound instructional design.
