Abstract

William Shakespeare remains one of the most influential figures in English literature. His plays and poetry have shaped literary traditions, dramatic techniques, and narrative styles for over four centuries. This paper examines Shakespeare's continuing influence on modern English literature by exploring his contribution to characterization, universal themes, language, and dramatic structure. Modern novelists, playwrights, and poets continue to reinterpret Shakespearean ideas to address contemporary concerns such as identity, power, love, justice, ambition, and morality. The study highlights how Shakespeare's works remain relevant because of their psychological depth and adaptability across cultures and historical periods. His legacy is reflected in literature, theatre, cinema, and popular culture, demonstrating that his writings continue to inspire creativity and critical inquiry in the twenty-first century.
