Abstract

Dystopian fiction presents imagined societies characterized by oppression, surveillance, inequality, environmental decline, or technological control. Although these narratives are fictional, they often reflect genuine social and political concerns. This paper examines the development of dystopian fiction, its defining characteristics, and its continuing relevance to contemporary society. It argues that dystopian literature serves as a warning against the abuse of power while encouraging readers to reflect critically on democracy, human rights, technology, and environmental sustainability.
